HK Street Food + Designer Bags = Oddly perfect!!

I know this doesn’t look appealing or appetizing (especially when these critters are literally crawling all over that table) but wait til you taste it! Those creepy crawler thingies laid out on the table are called Squillas. They are fried in salt and pepper with chili, and cost HK$100 per order (that’s Php 700). And they look like this when cooked (that’s one order). And they are DELICIOUS!!! And they are apparently only available at Jordan’s Temple Street. I ordered this dish at this restaurant. There are a number of these restaurants at Temple Street, and I saw a lot of tourists eating this very dish.
Here’s another one of those permanent stalls that have all the great tasting street food. Right smack downtown (wait, the whole of HK is downtown.. hehe well, almost) in Causeway Bay. They serve steamed (or is it blanched? ugh, hope it’s steamed) intestines, book tripes (my fave), snails, shrimp/ squid balls, thick soup, stuffed bellpepper, fried intestines, stinky tofu, chicken… wow, name it!

There’s a different kind of stall that serves all grilled food– like chicken wings, enoki mushrooms wrapped in bacon (?), bellpeppers, squids, barbeque pork.. This kiosk was already featured in a few local HK magazines too, so the line to order food from this place was loooong.

And a noodle stand that serves noodles in a small plastic 🙂 This is sooooo yummy also! You pick the type of noodle (egg, rice, or soba), then you choose the ingredients– like sliced pork, beef brisket, tripe, seaweed, quail egg… then they mix that with sauce for you and you eat it in this little plastic with 2 sticks that act as the chopsticks 😀 VERY good too!

Now let’s talk designer bags.

Chanel has this new tote that just looks like a Kate Spade bag. I wouldn’t pay premium for this bag, quite honestly. I still prefer the Coco Cabas. Oh yeah, so we were looking at the Chanel J12 Ceramic Watch. Didn’t realize how expensive they were! Geez, a quartz ceramic watch with a diamond bezel costs almost US$8,800 and they are also increasing prices in April!!! (AGAIN!!)

Prada fringe bags. I don’t like these bags at all. Even if you’ve got Lady Becks carrying it. It still just does not appeal to me at all. Anyone liking this new Prada bag collection?

Louis Vuitton’s ivory epi collection is gorgeous. Especially in Alma, Speedy, and Soufflot. Those 3 styles are definitely winners. If you have to pick an epi leather bag, definitely go with the ivory. I know, it’s high maintenance, but it’s soooo pretty!! I’m also loving the teeny tiny jewelry boxes 🙂 They’re cute, but I sure won’t buy those to keep! *ding ding expensivo!*

Speaking of LV, there’s a new line that came out as well– check out the LV monogram canvas with the lacework on its exterior. The cowhides are not made of the same leather that tans as it ages. This is already “aged” brown. Not bad at all, I’m also taking a liking to the new Pandora’s bag.

Ahhh Goyard, Goyard, Goyard. Guess what baghags, Goyard is opening its own boutique in Hong Kong soon! At the Hong Kong Peninsula shopping arcade, across from Hermes!

If I only have access to unlimited funds (i.e. if I have a money tree hehe) I’d be living la vida donya, getting a nice suite at the HK Peninsula every month and buying up a storm within the hotel 😀 That is of course, if the bag collections during that season were nice! Otherwise I’d be broke just paying for the hotel room haha… But I guess that’s not as bad as being broke because of shopping and the hotel! *Yeah, going broke even before leaving the hotel haha!*

Alrighty, more bag reviews soon, promise! This ol’ baghag is tired. Anyway, if you hags have a new bag, SHARE a photo with me! I wanna be able to show our other baghags your loot too 🙂 Easter holiday is coming up. What are YOUR plans??? Share me yours and I’ll share you mine 😀

P.S. Forgive the shameless plugging, but please check out TRESOR (www.tresormakati.com) since I have just posted new listings (LV, Hermes) *photos will be up soon*, and also price reductions on some Louis Vuittons (montsouris backpack, vernis wooster) as well as Chloe, Versace, and YSL!

P.P.S. Is anyone out there looking for a preowned Chanel 2.55 Jumbo in black? I can be reached at (+63916) 758-0857 or email tresormakati@gmail.com (pardon if I’m slow with replying. I try to answer them as fast as I can! )

  4. Hi Ms. T!

Those Squillas you posted are also available here in Manila. They’re known as “alupihang dagat” locally.

Dragon Gate along Roxas Blvd (near Traders Hotel) offers the bigger sized crawlies.

As always, I love your posts. It’s like “agua” in my dessert of designer bags. Mwahahaha!
