Have you ever been a Kiddie Crew Member? :)

Today is my blog’s unofficial “day- off” from bag blogging 😀

On Saturday afternoon, I was cleaning out my suitcase and found a small paperbag that held a souvenir which had a McDonald’s coupon on it.

*Waaaah, buy one Big Mac, Take one free! Only in Firenze~*  Oh how I wish I was able to redeem this one!!

Looking through the paper bag made me remember the summer activity my two kids and my niece were involved in this year.
They were happily part of McDonald’s Kiddie Crew 🙂
I am not too certain if they have this kiddie crew summer activity in the U.S. and other parts of the world, but I think it’s genius of McDonald’s to come up with this concept which I think has been running every summer for a very looong time. I’m glad that this favorite fastfood giant of mine makes sure that they cement their commitment to children and help foster camaraderie, team work, responsibility, and positive values among the kids who participated in this 5-day (week long) “training” at such a young age. (I actually envy my kids that they were able to take part because as a kid, I know I would’ve loved to have been part of something like this too– but they didn’t have this yet during the time I’d have been qualified to join hehehe).
After their welcome song (which they sing daily), they head over to their “stations”– some kids were at the cashier, others at the drinks station, french fries station, and even the sundae station 🙂
That’s my cousin’s daughter (my niece) right there 🙂
Preparing a Mc Flurry. One happy girl 🙂 My cousin’s daughter Dixie loved working at the Sundae/ Mc Flurry station 🙂
My two kids were stationed in the drinks and the cashier area and they both enjoyed working with the Point of Sales (POS) system immensely. 😀 I was a pleased mama, watching them serve customers 🙂

Each kiddie crew member got their chance to go through all the stations.

Some were even part of the “welcoming crew” forming two lines on the entrance of McDonald’s to greet customers. That got a LOT of diners’ attention 🙂 *And my kids actually became more courteous as a result of this week long exercise of greeting customers!*
That was a fun summer activity, even for me. Everyday I got to bring my kids to McDonald’s and my kids couldn’t wait to sing their song, do their “chores”, and tell me afterwards that they too, enjoyed “working”! 🙂 Their Kiddie Crew Workshop ended with a big bang– they had a grand “graduation” celebration (I think there were over 20,000 kids who participated in the McDonald’s Kiddie Crew Workshop this year– this was according to our local McDonald’s branch manager. If that is so, it’s really impressive!!! )
Kids nowadays are really lucky because of opportunities like these ones presented by McDonald’s. I will never forget those first few years of McDonald’s presence in Manila. I had often wished that I get to eat in McDonald’s often, but alas, the first 2 branches were far from where we lived, so it really became a treat to go there. And I remember keeping ALL those red French Fries containers 🙂 I even used them at one point as eraser containers on my study desk!  So don’t be surprised to hear me say it out here that I would’ve really wanted to have experienced being part of that “crew” just like my kids were. It’s one of those things I wished I had been able to do as a child 😀
Hehehehe… perhaps it’s time I ask through my blog (and pray someone from McDonald’s is reading this hahaha) if I can apply as a crew member for a day at my local McDonald’s branch. I think it would be so much fun!! And hahaha, I can tell my kids I too, worked at McDonald’s like they did over summer!
Alrighty, I’m off to call McDonald’s for delivery now. All this talk about the fast food giant got me real hungry. I’m thinking of a McChicken sandwich + Apple Pie 🙂 I need a treat!!
Have a great Sunday, everyone! Back to bag blogging on Monday 🙂
