Going the Extra Mile…

… for food!

Yesterday was really a fantastic “food” day. At 11 am on Monday morning (yesterday), CV Travel owner ClaudetteV and I were supposed to meet to discuss my family’s travel plans for next year when I remembered that the talented Miss CandyD of Jul B. Dizon had invited for lunch at the Manila Peninsula– that Php 33 per dish meal: Pancit luglog for Php 33; The Pen’s famous halo- halo for Php 33; and Schueblig and frites for Php 33. I was a fool to miss this. So I asked Claudette if we could just go there for lunch, to mix business with well, food 🙂

I was thinking we were early, but lo and behold, the line was SOOOO LOOOONG. My heart sank. I was already wondering where CandyD was– if she was able to get a table. Booohooo!! 🙁 And there I was, looking forward to spending only Php 100 *that’s under US$3!!* for 3 dishes (because I’m a cheapskate who loves a good deal).

Then I saw StephChong of Manila Pen, and asked where CandyD was.

Within seconds, we have a table! 🙂 There was CedricC, and DebbieS, along with Rosetteseated by the perimeter of the lobby lounge/ cafe (See those peeps standing in line??)

We were able to get the other table right beside this one, so we happily waited for our “super good deal meal”. My seatmates were GraceB, PiaM, and of course, the gracious host, CandyD

along with Ms Judith (who carried a beautiful Hermes venetian red marwari.. I *heart*) and ClaudetteV.(again, check out the looong line behind them)

We ordered all 3 dishes (all the way, baby!!) . Kinda unconventional to start the meal with Halo- Halo, but that was what came first. And since we were already hungry, we all dug right in!

Then I had the palabok
before feasting on the schueblig with fries.
If you know me well, you’d know that I’m really not a lunch person (I eat VERY little for lunch… sometimes none at all), so this meal is my “closet glutton” lunch. I finished it all.

*Ashamed* hahaha. I was planning on quitting after having half the schueblig but…

I thought of allllll those people lined up, waiting to have our table, waiting to order 3 dishes, waiting to finish ’em all. CHECK OUT THE LINE!!!!! (If you look closely, the line even extends to outside the hotel!!)

The line was impossibly long, so long that our friends from L.A., Cat and SteveP, decided to just eat at Mi Piace!

To our super generous lunch sponsor and mega big- shot, CandyD, thaaaaaaaank yooooooou for such a wonderful meal!!!!

(Volting- in time! Hahaha)
I was so happy to have been able to experience this “cheap” meal at a normally pricey cafe. The best “surprise” of it all? I didn’t even have to pay a single cent! in the end Hahahaha *freeeeloaaaaderrrrrrr!!!!!* Til the next “cheap” meal!! 😉
