Food Blog: Masseto in Salcedo

On our wedding anniversary last July 7, my husband took me to Masseto’s in Makati, along Valero Street (very close to Chocolate Fire). The restaurant was actually recommended by a really lovely lady I met while in Amanpulo, Michi Zepeda
Been meaning to try the restaurant ever since but I just never got around to choosing a place since we always had events and dinners out with friends.

Had to climb a short flight of stairs to see the entrance. This lobby is cleverly covered by the foliage out in front so you can’t see the restaurant from the street level. Very discreet– not even a signage of the restaurant save for this wine “seal” stamped with the restaurant’s initial– M.

When we entered, I saw an Arturo Luz on the wall. I was thinking, the owner of this restaurant definitely has excellent taste in art 😀 And the restaurant has a very extensive wine collection too.
At the restaurant, we ran into an old friend of my husband (Turns out  he was one of the owners– hence the wine collection and the art selection!) Also in Masseto were former Energy Secretary Vince Perez and his wife Leigh, with the new US Ambassador, Harry Thomas. This much I figured– we’re in for a very good meal if these important folks chose Masseto for dinner.  🙂

From the bar, potato chips with black truffle dip.

(Speaking of truffles, we just missed the truffle fest at Masseto too!)

My meal officially started with a plate of greens with blue cheese

I can keep eating this salad for days :). It’s very good because the greens were very fresh and crisp. And having the blue cheese made it excellent!
My husband and I shared the Bryan Flannery 32 day aged rib eye which was prepared to perfection
served with potato puree and bernaise sauce.  The steak was rather large for one person, but enough for us both at the time. *I was actually “cheating” that night because I have been on this no- meat diet during weekdays of late, plus I hadn’t been able to go to my bikram yoga class for days already*
My friends later told me to try the duck confit and the lamb rib and sausage. Mental note: practice bikram yoga regularly so I can indulge in the other dishes when I eat here again!!

And if the steak wasn’t enough, oh boy, check out the dessert!

This was just SO sinful, and was courtesy of Masseto. Hilarious since this was the restaurant’s version of “no fanfare” for our anniversary. I appreciated it very much though, and well, the husband seemed to think the restaurant was really topnotch. Will definitely be coming back to try out the other highly recommended dishes!

Thank you, MichiZ and JojoM! Masseto is located at the Ground Floor of 114 Valero Street, Salcedo Village Makati City. For reservations, call  (+632) 810.3565 or (+632) 338.092
