Dior. With or Without Galliano. J’Adore.

The earliest memory I have of Dior is from a floral blouse of my mom’s– some 25 years ago. Back then it wasn’t known as Dior. It was Christian Dior 🙂 And then of course Dior came into the picture again for me after Mrs. Chirac (wife of then- French president Jacques) presented Princess Diana with a Dior bag. That boxy bag with that cannage pattern was immediately named Lady Dior. It would become one of Princess Diana’s favorite bags which she would be seen carrying often.

It was really such a treat to have been able to visit the Dior Exhibition at LE Bon Marche over Paris Fashion Week.

Oh and I have to say that Bon Marche remains my favorite department store in Paris. And I have Claudette Vitug of CV Travel to thank for that– the first time we went to Paris and stayed for a longer period of time, she was the one who insisted on us visiting the Miraculous Medal Church– and beside that was Bon Marche 🙂
Anyway, here are some photos from the exhibition:
This is one of the most memorable looks in fashion history.
Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring Summer 1947
It’s Christian Dior’s “New Look” in the late 40s– an afternoon suit: skirt in black wool, natural shantung jacket.
Remember this photo? That’s the suit up there 🙂

Details on that ribbon.

The details are fantastic!

Another look:

Princess Bangalore– Silver lamé suit: fishtail skirt and jacket with silver lace overlay

Christian Dior FW 1997-98

Details:

Embroidered Lace!

Tatiana Usova inspired by Velazquez: A red moiré coat with gold embroidery

Dior Haute Couture FW 2007-08

Isn’t the detail on this something else? *wolfwhistle*

Some more favorites:

I guess you don’t sit when you wear this skirt 🙂

And since I started this post with a bag photo (with Princess Diana), I thought it only befitting to end it with a photo of a pair of Dior shoes 🙂

No matter what, J’Adore Dior!
