CNN arrives… late but ok :)

The crew from CNN has arrived late– thanks to the “incident” at the NAIA Airport. Apparently an Aboitiz cargo plane overshot the runway. Don’t ask my how they managed to keep 20 flights delayed for over 5 hours (incoming flights were not allowed to land!), but it happened. And the interview for tomorrow almost did not happen (be still my heart). Half my night was spent shuttling from one phone call to another (CNN producer and Mrs.M on the other), trying to get the schedules to work out because the whole team will fly out of Manila immediately after the interview is over. They flew in just for Mrs.M. I was already thinking, “oh dear, I’ll be in deep doodoo if this doesn’t work out.” But thank God that we were able to confirm everything. Mrs.M was just way too kind and accommodating. She had important meetings which she had scheduled for the original time of the interview, thinking the CNN peeps won’t make it (ugh thanks to the delayed flight!!). I was so pleased that they came in tonight, although they got into their hotel by midnight already. In the end, the interview will finally happen. Mrs.M moved her meetings again for this important interview. Mrs.M, THANK YOU!!!! (One of her relatives reads my blog *SC wink!* so *teehee* go tell Mrs.M again how grateful we all are for this :D)

My old colleague (from our days working for another int’l network) is already here as well and I will get to see her again after a very loong time! The last time we really got to “hang out” was at my hen party at the China Club where everyone was told to be “tai tai chic”. She came in looking every inch a Palm Beach country club wife 😀 and she won the “tai tai” award. She is AnjaliRao, the host of TalkAsia, at CNN, and viewed by millions worldwide. I am amazed at how fast time flew (but not all surprised that her career skyrocketed to the top :D). She says she is really just the “glamorous show pony” when I congratulated her on getting the job host TalkAsia, but oh she is not just a glamorous show pony– hello, she’s won the 2004 Amnesty International Human Rights Press Awards for her story ‘Toxic Trail’, a Focus Asia (Star TV) piece on the effects of widespread use of pesticide in southern India. Now that, is real journalism. 🙂 I’ve remained in touch with AR but we never get to see each other when I am in HK because she is practically never in HK! She is always flying out somewhere to interview someone. Wheeee! But wow I can also imagine how hard it must be to wake up in the middle of the night and not really know where you are. 🙁

Anyway, AR and I won’t meet up tomorrow til call time since she has to work at the business center *aww*. She told me that she had to do at least 5 hours of work to put a story together. Much more time spent now than the old days 🙂 I can imagine how tedious that must be, but hey, if you’re interviewing icons and world leaders and taipans, then I guess you have to be really prepared! She is flying back to HK tomorrow afternoon and will have to turn in another package right after she arrives. THAT is what I call a “busy” jetsetter. Having this job, handling foreign media for Mrs.M, made me realize how much I miss working on the “other side”. But hah, no way will I get a full time job there again (even if I wanted to). I’ve lagged so far behind that I would probably have to start interning full time (alongside new grads eeks, boy will I feel old then!) before I could even go climb the career mountain 🙂 *Mrs.T climbs almost everything haha* I think I’ll stick to my bags, thank you 😀

Yeah speaking of climbing, geez now I have another person to brag about, right? *Ok pelt me with rotten eggs, I’m ready hehe* Well, I’m sorry I had to brag about Anj, but I can’t help but feel proud of her, and proud to have worked with her, albeit briefly. Prior to CNN, she got married to B and moved to London (where most of my old colleagues are now). And late last year, she got offered a job by CNN, and likewise took over the post of LorraineHahn as the host of TalkAsia. Her guests on TalkAsia this week include rapper JayZ and Dr. JaneGoodall.

*Sigh* colleagues and friends are all going international supahstah (aka bigtime) on me. Meanwhile I am still stuck in my little fishbowl. Heck I can’t even get a job offer from any company *guffaw guffaw, pah-theh-tiiiiic!!* But ’tis ok, I get bragging rights when my friends all go bigtime. Haha now THAT is truly priceless eh? *Beams, brag brag* I’d rather be proud of my friends’ accomplishments than that of my own (since I have none anyway– oh hey, does collecting credit card receipts count as an accomplishment? :D)

And speaking of credit card receipts (as if I don’t own enough already), I am liking this bright yellow Marc Jacobs tote. It’s on sale!! From US$1095 to just US$765 *yeah I continue using the words “just” or “only”.. no wonder I’m always broke!*. I love the color so much, although the style is quite similar to Chloe. This bag reminds me of my beautiful sunflower Celine Boogie bag that I once loved and owned. *Sniff* But I know it’s in good hands 🙂 MJ bag available at eluxury.com

Anyway, hmm would I be so bold to ask DH to buy this for me for Christmas? Only 38 days left 🙂 *teehee taking advantage again* Gotta turn in for the night. Interview is so early today. I only have a good 4 hours of sleep left!

ONE NIGHT TO GO BEFORE THE BIG EVENT!!! Are we nervous? Well, what do you make out of sweaty palms? 😀

P.S. Thanks again to VickyM who featured yet another short segment on Mrs.M. 🙂
