Carrying More Than One Bag?

Do you notice that many women opt to carry more than one bag of late? I know I ended up carrying 2 bags in Milan over fashion week because I had originally wanted to bring this gorgeous minaudiere but my phone could not fit into it (the phones they make these days are just so big!). So I ended up carrying 2 clutch bags– one minaudiere by Roberto Cavalli, and another flat panther clutch.

Then yesterday I came across a story about the British PM’s wife Samantha Cameron who also carried more than one bag on an errand (a school run I believe).

SamCam carried three different styles and all from one label– Smythson (of which she was once Creative Director). I think she carried the three bags with so much style that it didn’t even look awkward that she had 3 bags, making her one of the ultimate bag ladies in my book 😉

Of the 3 bags she carried, I loved this Crossbody bag in dove grey the most:

I think the key to carrying more than one bag is cohesiveness– in style or in color. A tote and a clutch, or a tote and a shoulder bag seem to be the best combinations. For sure it’s not easy to pull off carrying a lot of bags, but I think if you are able to “edit” which bags you will carry together (don’t just grab whatever bag you see at home), you too can make it look effortless the way SamCam did 🙂
