Bag Review: Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton

After my meeting along Champs Elysees on this cloudy and extremely cold day,
Paris will always be magical…

I went to Louis Vuitton (aka the “Mothership”). When in Paris, you cannot not visit Louis Vuitton. See, at some point, I did try to avoid the Mothership *because hah, this baghag can’t walk out of Louis Vuitton without something… proven hahaha*. But you know what though, if you don’t visit the Mothership on your trip to Paris,
The Mothership tonight

you will leave with that sense of “incompleteness” *hehehe this applied to me*.

I took advantage of the fact that most stores don’t open in Paris on Sundays, and visited Louis Vuitton along Champs Elysees today– because Louis Vuitton is open on Sundays! Louis Vuitton along Ave. Champs Elysees stays open until 6pm on Sundays.

At LV, I got the chance to touch and feel what is in my opinion, a really good “work” bag worth investing in.

The Sofia Coppola bags (SC bags)

I looove this color. Seriously looove it

This has to be the most versatile of all, and I can see why this is one of LV’s best sellers

If you’re not into the blues, then this is the perfect color to get
I’ve always wondered how Sofia Coppola came to have that collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

This was what happened– Sofia Coppola was invited to visit Louis Vuitton’s historic workshop in Asnières by her good friend Marc Jacobs. From over a century of tradition and innovation, a plethora of colors and materials, craftsmen and designers who gave expert advise, and of course her own creative vision came her inspiration to produce this collection! It’s all about the “quiet luxury” for Sofia Coppola. This time, she has added a smaller size and new colors for her SC bag!

Here are some more things Sofia had to say about her collection for Louis Vuitton. And read on, because this is all interesting literature on the bag that you will want to get for Christmas *seriously, it’s all about ‘quiet luxury’ nowadays– and in 2011, you will want to own something a little more luxurious, and discreet!*

Your new collection includes a smaller version of the SC bag. Why did you feel it was important to make a downsized version?
I love the new smaller size for every day. The larger size is great for work or travel, but – having tried it out extensively myself – I prefer the smaller version to carry around for day. It’s more of a chic handbag that you can take to lunch, for example, and yet it’s still spacious enough to fit everything you need.

Can you talk us through the new colors you have chosen for the SC bag?

We wanted to introduce new colors that were neutral and classic, and would complement the existing cobalt and jasper calf leather and asphalt grey suede. I love autumnal shades, so I selected a rich, dark chocolate and a luminous ecru for the calf leather, and a beautiful light chestnut for the suede. We’re also planning some brighter colors for next spring.

In all your bags, you have paid particular attention to discreet details, like the linings and the metal hardware…
Because the designs of both the SC bag and the Slim clutch are so simple, the materials and details become even more important – the clutches, for example, are lined in the softest lambskin, the calf leather SC bags are lined in suede, and the suede versions in calf leather.

How do you feel when you see someone carrying one of your bags?

I’m excited! I made something I wanted for myself, and it’s fun to see other people with it, liking what we made. I like that the bags are luxurious, but not status symbols.

All I can say after finding out more about the SC bags? I’d really like to own one– it would be really nice to alternate between the Sac Louis and the SC bag *bright idea!!*.  What I love about the SC bag is it’s a very timeless shape, and it has that all- important shoulder strap. I “test- drove” the bag and it really makes a perfect everyday bag– I can also see that it would make a really wonderful travel “companion”. The leather looks smooth in these photos, but the leather actually has grains, making it more scratch- resistant *and this, baghags, is a VERY big plus!*

Oh and there’s this other version of the SC bag too which I am really liking. It’s in suede– and the combination is fantastic!
Beautiful combination– light chestnut in suede with dark brown trim
I stayed a long time at Louis Vuitton and made mental notes of the other things I really like. Confession: I also am lusting after the Alma MM in vernis pomme d’amour and the new Spring/ Summer sandals!!! Heeeelp!!! *gulp* 😀 *To my generous loved ones, please please read this post hahaha Christmas hints abound!! *

By the time I left Champs Elysees, this was what greeted me.
The city of blinding lights 🙂

Ahhh, the memories of Paris and of Louis Vuitton. I can’t wait to take the wonderful memories of LV- Champs Elysees all back with me to Manila. Hah, chances are, I will head straight back into the doors of Louis Vuitton *hehehe I will need a refresher of what I like– especially since Christmas is less than a month away ;)*

So baghags, it’s time to check out the SC bags up close. Let those monogram bags take a back seat. Go for something more discreet and luxurious this time *love what Sofia said– that bags should be luxurious and not status symbols*, and take the SC bag into serious consideration when you get your bonus and have spare cash for a nice bag splurge 🙂 *Oh and dangle your new purchase in front of me so that I may drooool over it haha :D*
