Art on Your Wrist!

How do people who have money spend their money (or invest their money)? Of late, many would invest their money in a good bag (or ok, plural form: good bagS)– just think of how many women are willing to place their name on a list and wait for that coveted Hermes birkin. And then there are those who would buy property– we’re not even talking primary homes. We’re talking several levels up– we’re talking vacation homes! And then there are those who would rather tuck their money safely in financial instruments from reputable financial institution (although the word “safely” no longer applies of late– think of all those financial scams and how families’ savings got wiped out– from “reputable” financial institutions!). And then you have men (and women) who would rather buy art– paintings, sculptures. And then you have more women (and also men. Yes, men own exquisite jewels *museum- worthy pieces too* which would sometimes make it on the auction floors of Christie’s and Sotheby’s) who would pay for jewellery. Jewellery = investment. And every so often, you get an exquisite piece of jewellery which in itself is a work of art. My favorite jewellers to name a few include JAR, James de Givenchy of Taffin, Lorenz Baumer, Victoire de Castellane, and Wallace Chan (but hah, I have yet to earn my “right” *aka money hehehe* to own something from all these “favorite” jewellers. I say they are my favorites based on the work they’ve made which I have had the privilege of seeing :D). These jewellers I have mentioned are true artists. Pieces of their work have inspired copies the world over.
And then you have Cindy Chao (The Art Jewel) who is really in a league of her own. And she is also a very big favorite of mine. Familiar name? Yes, because I have written about her in the past– the first time I saw her work was through The Bag Snob. I was so impressed. Because Cindy has captured the Bag Snob’s “story” so perfectly and executed it so remarkably into a ring! In every angle of that ring was a detail so intricate you could not help but admire and stare at for a very long period of time (I stared and stared and stared at Tina’s ring and couldn’t get over how impressive the workmanship and design were). I’ve never seen any piece of jewellery quite like it. Cindy Chao is a true master.
This coming April 6, Sotheby’s is auctioning a masterpiece of Cindy’s. Called the Solstice Cuff,
(Click image for a larger, more detailed view– trust me, it’s worth it!)
The cuff is modelled as an Azalea
this piece took Cindy more than two years to work on, “from sculpting the wax model to collection [of] exactly 5,170 colored diamonds and gemstones in order to portray the vivid vision” in her mind.
For serious jewellery collectors out here, this is an opportunity you cannot allow to pass. If you’ve been spending a lot of money on jewellery, I suggest you bid on this piece *and I hope you win it* and then abstain and refrain from buying other pieces of jewellery for the rest of the year or however long you wish :). Because this particular piece by Cindy Chao is one- of- a kind. There will never be another piece made exactly like this one again. And anything Cindy Chao designs and makes is a true work of art. And value is guaranteed to increase over time, without question.
