Another Father’s Day without my Daddy…

*Sigh* This is definitely one of those days when I get a little depressed. It has been 8 years since my Dad’s passing. This is the 8th year I celebrate Father’s Day without my Dad.

The other day, someone asked me what are the 5 things I learned (or live by) from my Dad. I learned so much from Daddy and it was quite hard for me to narrow it down to just 5 answers. But I managed. And this was what I wrote.

1. Always be honest and fair to everyone and in everything you do. (Never maltreat people)
2. Never, ever fight with family over money. (Don’t ruin relationships with family)
3. Be grateful for all your blessings. (Always be thankful for what you have)
4. Share your blessings with the less fortunate. (Help those who are in need)
5. Remain humble even if you’ve “achieved” success. (Don’t act like you are God because you’re not)

I honestly don’t know if I have been abiding by these 5 things (I hope I have been), but these are the more important things that my Dad has taught me. (Ok, maybe I should try harder to strictly abide by them)

My father has always been and will always be the number one man in my life (and my mom is the number one woman in my life, no ifs and buts). My dad’s seen me at my best, comforted me at my worst, and always had my best interest at heart.

Daddy was a very selfless man. He was never one who would get a serious kick out of spending hours in a shopping mall, but during our vacations, he’d go shopping with us. I remember I was around 10 that time when he took us “swimming trunks shopping” at the now defunct Shui Hing Department Store (or at least that was what I thought its name was) in Hong Kong. While my DBs and I would make a beeline for Arena or Speedo and get us the latest swim gear, he’d get himself the cheapest (and cheesiest hahaha) tropical print trunks and brag to us how cheap he got them for as he paid for our purchases (only to find out later that those trunks he got were already his SECOND pair of the SAME print, the first of which he had bought a few trips before hahaha)

Oh how much fun my Dad and I had together. I miss him so much this Father’s Day… I wish he was still with us. I wish he was given the chance to play with my children. I wish my children met my Dad so they’d know what a wonderful man and father he was to us…(Mrs.T at just 6 months, carried by my DD *Dear Daddy*)
*Psst… note: no heart on my face :D*

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy… If there was one thing I’d wish for, it’s that you could share a few more years of your life here on earth with us…

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all the Dads out there! And to you, my dear readers, please do let your fathers know how much you appreciate them and love them. It’s really, really difficult not to have a Dad 🙁

  3. Mrs T, your post was so, so touching. It’s very evident that you still miss your father so much up to this day. I’m glad you have so many fond and happy memories to look back to which you can pass on and share with your own kids. I myself am not very close with my father but it was kinda striking to read your last line, “It’s really, really difficult not to have a dad.”

  4. It’s been 6 years since my dad passed away and I know how you feel. At least we are left with the many things they taught us and will forever have an imprint in our lives….

p.s. my mom and grandfather knew your dad and I always heard great things about him 🙂

  5. hi mrs T!! after so many months of trying to figure out the face behind that heart, at last i’ve already did!!=P thanks to “5 things that you learned from your dad”… cheers to you and your dad!!=)
