Akihabara: Mrs.T’s remedy for electronics allergy :D

It was DH’s turn to have “his” day in Tokyo, and he chose to spend it at his favorite district, Akihabara (Soto- Kanda). Otherwise known as Electronic Town. It is also known for its anime and comics stores. It’s pretty amazing actually– for maybe 2 or 3 hours *hehe*

So I’m selfish. I was hoping DH wouldn’t spend so much time in Akihabara. But we ended up spending over 9 hours in Akihabara! I know, I know. For someone who’s as uninterested as I am in electronics, that was just sheer torture. Also, the ghastly event of the Akiba massacre just a month ago (I think June 7 or 8) still lingers on in many people’s minds, including mine.

But, I found a way to amuse myself in between those hours. I ended up eating. Crepes, samurai balls (or whatever they are… oh my), I ate it. 😀 While the hubster went checking out “toys for the big boys” like those electronic trains, and these convertible robots- to- fighter planes (that are apparently collectors’ items already), I went to look for FOOOD!!!! *Natch*

I saw this funky van which belonged to a huge fan of the anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion’s character, Rei. (Don’t ask me how I know about Neon Genesis Evangelion… it’s actually DH‘s thing, but then I ended up watching it on DVD with him out of nothing better to do some months ago… *psst pat me on the back.. I’m a good wife hahaha…*) Ok, the guy even had a life-size doll of Rei inside his van– in the front passenger side!! (look on the interior right side of the van…can you make out the “doll”s face and hair?) It actually kinda creeped me out… hahaha.

After wandering around with DH, making sure we went into every single store, I found myself hungry (even after munching on those little snacks). I found us this chirashi place. I KNEW I hit gastronomic paydirt *Ding ding ding*

I ordered the Fresh uni with ikura and negitoro over rice.
I finished the meal in under 10 minutes. I was hoping to order the amaebi (Sweet shrimp) and uni over rice (photo in the poster in the lower right hand side), but was too embarrassed to ask DH if I could order another round.. hahaha… I mean, he’s seen me wolfing down a banana cream crepe just less than an hour before I had this chirashi… Tsk. Note to self: disclose binge- eating behavior with DH soon or I’d be living a big gastronomic lie for 7 years now hahahaha…

DH was unadventurous for our late lunch as he opted to have something cooked in the chirashi. I know, right? What gives? 😀 Our bill was Y1,730 or Php 750. Cheap meal!!! Darnit. Now that I just calculated that meal, I should’ve ordered that second bowl!!! It was barely US$6 for my sashimi rice bowl!!!! *Stomach growls now*

The rest of our afternoon was spent in Anime stores, where even the oldest cartoon characters or clay characters are still being sold– as “collectors’ items”. That was a treat for me too because I relived my childhood somehow after seeing all these old characters (like the Thunderbirds’ Lady Penelope… you hags know her? :D) Sadly, I failed to take photos 🙁 🙁

We didn’t realize the time had passed by so fast until the stores began closing. So we rushed to look for a place to eat for dinner. I saw Pepper Lunch *hehe*. Was so tempted to go in, but nah, decided we were going to patronize Pepper Lunch Manila instead *shoutout to CecileVS! hehe*. (Congratulations to them by the way, for topping the sales among the Asian franchisees– that’s a pretty awesome feat!)

So we went into this steak house instead. Yes, the old steakhouse we had dinner at last November! 🙂

Very similar concept to Pepper Lunch– sizzling plate and all. I ordered the rib eye (or I thought it was rib eye) and the hamburg steak. I don’t know why they don’t call it hamburger steak there. It’s just called Hamburg steak 🙂

Our meal for the night came to Y3,860 or about Php 1,660+. Not bad already. *Drat, now I’m craving for Pepper Lunch hitokuchi!!! 🙁 *

Enough post about Akiba for the night. I am seriously getting hungry. 🙁 I better get some shuteye before my hunger becomes full blown and when that happens, I’d have to sneak out and have late night snacks again… (I’m growing an unsightly pot belly already… not gooood!!)

P.S. The beautiful red bag of Bea Valdes is called “Horus” and it’s actually going to be part of her Spring/ Summer 2009 collection which is not yet even launched! It’s priced in the whereabouts of EUR1,790++. It’s really gorgeous up close– amazing details. There’s a midnight blue/ black combination which I’m also soooo loving right now *heart heart heart* MargaV’s necklace is also by Bea Valdes! And by the way, the best news of it all, they will accept local orders for this bag.
